Honouring Trevor's Legacy
Some stories leave an indelible mark on our hearts.
Our team's content creator recently visited Mike, a close friend who owns Arena Wood Machining & Joinery, just outside of Mandurah. The purpose was to capture images for our recent new colours launch and gift box unveiling. The timing was quite remarkable as they arrived during the unloading of logs, originally planted by a man 27 years prior.
This man, Allen, shared a deeply touching story that left us all profoundly moved.
With great generosity, Allen allowed us to photograph him, enabling us to share his touching story with a wider audience. The pain of his tragic loss resonated in his voice and reflected in his eyes.
Allen and his brother co-owned Westhaul Freight. Tragically, Allen's brother, Trevor, was one of three truck drivers who lost their lives in the Borrabbin Fires on the Great Eastern Highway near Kalgoorlie in December 2007. The premature reopening of the highway, a decision made by authorities, led to the deaths of Trevor Murley, Lewis Bedford, and Robert Taylor.
Determined to honour his brother's memory and ensure the incident is not forgotten, Allen Murley erected a memorial near the site of the tragedy. He expressed his wish for another memorial in Boorabbin, encouraging people to visit and preserving the memory of his brother and the other two men who perished.
Despite efforts, those accountable for the disastrous decisions had their names cleared. Further information on this can be found in various online articles.
We extend our gratitude to Allen for sharing his story and permitting us to capture his portrait alongside our popular 1.9L bottle. We hope his dream of seeing a memorial in the town of Boorabbin comes to fruition one day.
As an expression of gratitude from the Fridgy family, we hope you treasure your new Fridgy 1.9L bottle. Welcome to the Fridgy family!
This embodies our mission at Fridgy—sharing the stories of true hardworking Aussies.
"Allen's journey reminds us that even in the darkest of times, there's strength in unity and hope in remembrance. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your story."
